← Selected workBrief
A Chinese consumer-tech product is ready for an international audience, but its Chinese product communication relies on linguistic patterns and cultural conventions that do not transfer automatically to European markets.
The task: take selected copy from the official Chinese product page and create an Italian-facing version that stays accurate while reading like original Italian product communication.
01 / Original Chinese
高清大画面 智能新体验
无需按键,无需触碰,即可完成对投射全域的精准操控
指哪点哪
02 / Literal translation
高清大画面 智能新体验Large high-definition picture, new smart experience.
无需按键,无需触碰,即可完成对投射全域的精准操控No buttons, no touching. Precise control over the entire projected area.
指哪点哪Point where you want. Click where you point.
Literal translations are shown here as working references. They are not intended as final European-facing copy.
03 / Italian localization
Example 01LiteralLarge high-definition picture, new smart experience.
Italian localizationUn'immagine più grande. Un'esperienza più smart.
The Chinese combines image quality and smart functionality in a compact two-part promotional phrase. The Italian version keeps the same rhythm while using wording that feels natural in consumer technology communication.
Example 02Original无需按键,无需触碰,即可完成对投射全域的精准操控
LiteralNo buttons, no touching. Precise control over the entire projected area.
Italian localizationControlla tutto senza pulsanti né contatto.
The source emphasizes precise control without physical interaction. The Italian version reduces the technical density and foregrounds the benefit instead.
Example 03LiteralPoint where you want. Click where you point.
Italian localizationPunta. Clicca. Hai tutto sotto controllo.
The Chinese uses repetition to create immediacy and simplicity. The Italian version replaces that repetition with a short three-part rhythm while preserving the sense of direct control.
Example 04LiteralNo need to prop it up on books, no need to look for an angle. Viewing without limits.
Italian localizationNiente libri sotto. Niente angolazioni da cercare. Guarda dove vuoi.
The Chinese names two very concrete household frustrations before stating the benefit. The Italian version preserves that concrete, everyday frustration while using a shorter, more natural rhythm.
Example 05LiteralThe picture becomes sharp in a second, with no manual adjustment.
Italian localizationImmagine nitida in un attimo, senza regolazioni manuali.
A deliberately restrained localization. Not every line needs creative language: here precision and naturalness serve the Italian reader better than a playful rewrite.
The goal is not to preserve every word. It is to preserve the communicative function of the original while making the language feel natural to an Italian audience.
04 / Selected Italian product copy
The following examples show how the same localization approach extends beyond short slogans into longer consumer-facing product communication.
05 / Localization choices
01 / Meaning over wording
A localized message does not need to reproduce every word. It needs to preserve the communicative function of the original.
02 / Natural Italian rhythm
Chinese promotional copy often relies on compression, repetition and parallel structures. Italian may require a different rhythm to create the same effect.
03 / Audience expectations
The wording is adapted to the conventions of Italian consumer technology communication rather than mechanically reproducing Chinese promotional language.
04 / Technical accuracy
Creative adaptation applies to communication, not to product facts. Technical information remains faithful to the source material.
06 / What this project demonstrates
Translation
Understanding what the Chinese source actually says.
Localization
Adapting Chinese product communication so that it reads naturally for an Italian audience.
Transcreation
Knowing when preserving the message matters more than preserving the wording.
Content adaptation
Extending the same principles from short claims to longer product-facing communication.
Services used
Source material: publicly available Chinese product communication from HONOR. Independent portfolio exercise; not commissioned work.
Next projectA Chinese destination, five European voices.
